Susannah Hardyman MBE

Susannah Hardyman MBE joined as Chief Executive of Impetus in January 2025. She brings extensive experience in education and youth-focused charities, with a deep commitment to tackling educational inequality.

Before joining Impetus, Susannah was the founder and Chief Executive of Action Tutoring, one of the UK’s leading education charities that has supported tens of thousands of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to improve their academic outcomes.

Action Tutoring has been a key delivery charity in the Impetus portfolio for over a decade and, under Susannah’s leadership, has grown from a local initiative to a leading organisation in its field, working with hundreds of schools across the UK and partnering with the Department for Education as a key provider in the National Tutoring Programme. In 2022-23, Action Tutoring delivered approximately 7,000 tutoring courses to just over 6,000 pupils, with just under 70% eligible for pupil premium.

Susannah brings substantial leadership experience, having grown the Action Tutoring team to over 70 people, with the involvement of over 1,800 active volunteer tutors a year. Susannah has also been a powerful voice in the sector, calling on the Government to unlock resources to deliver high impact, evidence led interventions for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Susannah holds an MA in Theology from the University of Cambridge and an MA in Politics, Theology and NGOs from King’s College London. She is a fellow of the RSA, a Leaders Plus alumni and in 2024 she was awarded an MBE in recognition of her services to Education.
